On the occasion of the finissage of Rini Hurkmans’ solo exhibition Pietà, Millefleurs, Lumen Travo Gallery hosted a conversation between the artist Rini Hurkmans and Sarah van Binsbergen, a journalist, critic, and editor who writes about contemporary visual art for various publications, including de Volkskrant. With a background in cultural politics and anthropology, van Binsbergen has a keen interest in how art and the art world reflect, question, and challenge societal developments.
Together, they explored themes of loss, ethics, and human values through Hurkmans’ latest large-scale textile installation Pietà, Millefleurs, Verdure (2024) and the other works presented in the exhibition.
